La lettre d'Ines - Bonjour

September 17th 2020 / Letter #256
How depressing! It's hard to motivate yourself for the start of the new school year.. At the moment, I'm reading Emmanuel Carrère's Yoga, he talks about his years of meditation and his interest in yoga, but I know he then describes a serious depression. I will do the opposite, start under a slightly cloudy sky and then turn to yoga & meditation. Well, it is not yet done, but the first thing to do in case you feel a little blue is to eat well…

So... the other day, when I left my shop (surprised I hadn't already ran away with this magnificent electric bike made by Gitane), I went alone to Au Sauvignon. And then I realized that there were places which were so familiar to me and that I had fancied for so long, and yet I had never told you about them. This place is located at the crossroads of La Croix Rouge, near the Bon Marché and my shop (um ... but they've been there a little longer!), their small sandwiches, wines by the glass and caricatures on the walls are legendary and well known to Parisians. It is the ideal place for a quick lunch with good local products. What a fool I am not telling you before !

Same for Le Soufflé, a restaurant that mainly makes “soufflés”... I'm crazy about the cheese and the chocolate ones. The address is ideal: between the Concorde & Delphine Courteille's salon. Well, the decor is quaint, nothing to do with all the new trendy bistros, but it has a little old-fashioned look which I quite like…

A word of advice: spend time with young people ! Paul, my son-in-law, introduced me to the restaurant Au passage in the 11th arrondissement. The decor and the dishes are just exactly what I love ! A small house looking like a bistro in a narrow old street, charming young people: I'll have my napkin ring soon !

The Cali Sisters is definitely “THE place to eat” right now! Located at 17 rue Notre Dame des Victoires near the Bourse, this restaurant, as its name suggests, was designed by 2 sisters: Capucine & Juliette Vigand. Very much inspired by The Butcher's Daughter in Los Angeles which I adore (the same interior designer, Heather Tierney, worked on this project), this restaurant offers a typical Californian cuisine and above all a very “American” atmosphere. The waitresses all speak English even when you answer them in French. It's open all day and you can eat at all hours and so much the better, because it's delicious !

But the most successful part in this restaurant is the decor and it is what gives this place a super nice atmosphere. In addition to the large drapes on the ceilings that you saw just above, there are plenty of charming and not the least pretentious little details : baskets, small pots, buckets, jugs on the shelves, it's a bit of a mess, a bit like home. The chairs are all different and combined with pretty benches arranged with unmatched cushions. The star of the visit is undoubtedly this lovely little tap above the toilet sink, a garden tap, it's anything but design and that's what is nice !

Now is the time to go for a drink at the Ritz... Unfortunately, tourists are not really there at the moment, the hotel is quiet and very pleasant. And then, if you don't have time to stop by, just in front of the entrance there is a super chic ice cream shop which is open every day from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., except on Monday until late September or even early October. Definitely the most chic ice cream in Paris !

No more excuses... These recipes look very easy! In Marmiton's books: Top light, Top low prices, Top vegetarian, everything’s very clear. There is also a book for those who do not have time -Top Chrono - and a mini one with 365 special robot-cooker recipes, one for each day. Well now, either you get started or you keep them until Christmas as a gift for your son-in-law who watches Top Chef on TV !
