February 18, 2021 / Letter #278 |
There is a bedroom at home that I never got round to decorating, and it was a bit annoying because over time, it had become a sort of storage room in which someone occasionally came to sleep. Today I’ve decided to improve it and as I always think of you, I made a sort of "before and after" for you to understand my concern.

The best decoration is undoubtedly starting off by tidying up or even getting rid of (or giving) a few things. In this little room, a lot of things have piled up over time, so I started sorting and discarding what wasn't necessary. Try it, you'll see, it's very satisfying !

In spite of the 2 large windows, this room isn’t very light and the white color of the curtains and sheets made it look rather dull, especially as they turned yellowish over time...

So, first I swapped the white curtains for rose ones, these are actually large washed linen tablecloths from the Communauté de biens brand, found at Smallable. It immediately made the room more cosy. Fortunately as my curtain rods have clip rings, the operation was very easy !

For the bed, I chose an off-white duvet cover, hazelnut cushion covers in long format and khaki ones in the square format. I also took some in pale pink, but I haven't used them yet. I also found a very long pillow with its dusty pink cover that I love. I added a cotton gauze bedspread found at # 74. Finally, I wrapped the headboard in a pink flat sheet from Am.Pm. As the bed takes up most of the space in this room, the change is radical.

As for the bedside tables, I first got it wrong. They didn't fit at all. So I changed them for two tables that I already had at home, which are much bigger. Actually you shouldn't be afraid to put something bigger and not necessarily intended for that purpose.

Perfect, isn't it ? |

You probably noticed in the previous photos that I also changed the bedside lamps that didn't fit either. I found 2 identical ones at Ailleurs that are made of resin and papier-mâché. And on the desk that I completely tidied up and closed (that's the advantage of writing desks), I put a charming one in wicker from Atelier Vime. It changes everything, doesn't it ?
|
|
Pretty, right ? |

Thank you Atelier Vime ! |

Small details that matter: I added ceramics on one of the bedside tables as well as flowers and hung paintings on the walls. Much better there than piled up somewhere on the floor !

Ta-da !!! A few hours of hard work later and there we are !
Of course, I could have repainted the walls, changed the carpet... but I didn't feel up to it this time! I must admit I'm quite happy because this small room that didn't look much regained some comfort and warmth. I'm sure that from now on we will think twice before leaving things lying around, won’t we ? Well, it wasn’t easy to take a picture of the whole bedroom, but I assure you that the change is quite successful.

In this letter I wanted to show you that you can always transform quite easily a place that you find a little ordinary. Changing the curtains, sheets, lamps, furniture and above all tidying up and throwing out a lot can change everything and the result is instantaneous and very satisfactory. Hope it will inspire you! I wish you a very good week and I look forward to next Thursday.
