La Blouse de Lyon is a shop I’ve known for a long time, created in 1937 it was until now run by a lovely old man who ran alone the somewhat astonishing organisation (a real mess) of his shop. In 2019, Nicolas Le Jeune took over the business and was smart enough to stay true to the spirit of the shop (he did tidy up a bit though.) It is thus a historical address which offers traditional work clothes that I present you this week. |

La Blouse de Lyon is a specialist in ‘trade’ clothing: jackets with buttons and patch pockets, herdsmen jackets, Le
Laboureur trousers, men’s waistcoats, aprons and a plethora of accessories. All gathered in a rather small shop (you’ll see, it is not easy to photograph everything) 21 rue Gérando in Paris. I was in such a hurry to get into the shop that I forgot to take a picture of the window, but you won’t miss it, it’s all blue!

The buttoned jacket with patch pockets from Le Laboureur is the unavoidable must from this shop. It exists in all sizes and especially in all colours, a real dilemma… The blue model with red buttons is irresistible, but I finally picked the red one. Yes, I know, it was quite predictable!

There are lots of other wool jackets in nice colours or velvet ones like the herdsmen jackets. I’ve tried most of them. Of course, some of them are not in season, but you have to be prepared!

The trousers from Le Laboureur are another masterpiece. You know, the ones buttoned high on the waist, with a little loop in the back. Here they are available in velvet but also in cotton canvas and in different colours.

To complete Le Laboureur’s look, a man’s waistcoat is a must too. They are available incorduroy, but the cotton models, worn without anything underneath, will probably be more adapted to the summer heat.

The overalls are absolutely perfect. I’ve rarely seen one so well cut, a real feat because it’s never easy to realise. It’s ultra elegant in black and divine in white, worn with a tee-shirt underneath. Plus, you can easily dye it because it’s made of cotton. It’s the perfect garment for those days when you’re not inspired.

I can understand why many of the local cafes come here to buy aprons, they are beautiful in blue and 100% cotton. They come from the famous English hardware store Labour and Wait. They almost make me want to start cooking! They are also very chic in suede or leather.

These white leather gardening gloves are the ultimate chic! A great gift idea for your friends this summer. There are also felt or straw hats and even caps. I guess this is a bit frustrating for those who don’t live in Paris, but I hear the e-shop is under construction. I took the liberty of reminding the owner that today it has become essential…

There is also a whole collection of very original knives. I love this flat model made of gold-plated metal or this mini knife with a crafted wooden handle. And then those very small pruning shears with a leather handle that is a real museum piece. I think that with the white leather gloves, you can easily become the most stylish gardener in the universe!

It’s amazing what’s in this little shop! Leather kits for ‘real’ DIYers, carpenters pencils, incense and even the ancestor of the watering can: a clay ‘chantepleure’.

Not much to do with ‘professional’ clothes, but you must have received the new box from La Lettre d’Ines, which includes some pretty cotton table mats from Jamini. They are colourful and inspired by Indian designs. There is also a small bowl from My Room Tour, irregularly shaped as I like, and finally a Mademoiselle Saint Germain body lotion made with organic figs from Provence. I hope you’ll like it all! |
