La lettre d'Ines - Bonjour
28 october 2021 / Letter #314
This week, I thought I could give you some ideas for a few autumnal looks. This time, as a basic item, I chose a navy peacoat which I think is a fairly common item. And once again, the idea is not to encourage you to buy new clothes, but rather to give you some inspiration in mixing up the clothes you already have in your closets. You will see, these are simple clothes that you don’t necessarily think of pairing.

First of all, the navy peacoat. Mine comes from my shop and I obviously like it a lot. But you probably already have one. If you don’t, maybe you can steal your lover’s or, at worst, you’ll find them all over the place and at all prices. Anyway, it’s a warm jacket that goes with a lot of things as I’ll try to show you.

This first look is kind of my uniform for this fall: jeans, any will fit as long as they’re not stretchy and slim (aren’t they Sophie ?!). A big turtleneck sweater in a pretty colour. Mine is the result of my collaboration with Notshy and – sorry for this autopub break – of which I am very proud. These are basic sweaters but in thick cashmere, and I dreamed of these colours for this winter. Then you need a bag, it doesn’t matter the shape as long as it’s simple and made from nice smooth leather. Finally, a pair of leather moccasins. Mine are Argentinian and for men … the proof that everything is possible! And then, you can add a sailor’s cap, it always goes well with a peacoat and it easily solves all kinds of hair problems.

For this look, the idea is to show you that you can easily layer 2 jackets. I like the idea. In this case, it is a suede jacket worn under the peacoat. But it could be any little jacket. To stay in an autumn theme, I added a khaki sweater and khaki pants that you may already have since I mentioned them in a letter last spring (Letter 295). An old belt found in the souk of Marrakech, a pair of long mustard yellow socks, black Converse and you’re ready!

To make my ultra classic houndstooth pants more modern, I put them on with a hoodie. I’m sure you have some nice clothes you don’t wear anymore because you are scared they will be too classic and will make you look old. Well, associated with an unexpected garment, it changes everything. I added long grey cashmere socks, a very soft scarf and a pair of leopard moccasins that I’ve had for 100 years and which unfortunately no longer exist, but maybe that will make Isabel Marant want to do them again?

The navy peacoat necessarily goes well with beige and when it’s cold, we don’t necessarily think of wearing light colours, and yet it rather cheers you up. So beige pants, a grey sweater, a beige plaid shirt, black leather moccasins, and because gray goes well with natural leather, you can add a small bag or phone case like me.
La Vieille Charit
Quite simply!

Of course, the navy peacoat is perfect for a patriotic look! White jeans, a white sweater, a red bag, a red bandana, a pretty pair of ballet flats and not to mention, a pair of gold & red earrings. Well, too bad July 14th doesn’t fall in October, but that’s okay, the blue-white-red is pretty in all seasons.

Obvious, right?

And last, a look to show you that the navy peacoat even goes with the skirts. So you can bring out your summer long skirt because worn with a big sweater, big socks and nice boots, you will be super pretty! I added a bag that coincidentally matched the boots, I am not in the habit of matching my bag to my shoes, but this time it looked pretty nice.

In the October box, you will find a delicate little necklace that will go very well with all these looks. It is composed of a freshwater pearl and a pink opal and it was designed by the aptly named brand Ô Plum. There is also a very useful Terre de Mars body milk to prevent crocodile skin in winter! Finally, if you find a golden ticket in your box, it is because you are one of the lucky ones invited to spend a night on the Opal Coast in the delightful Château de Montreuil.

Next week, I think I’ll tell you about my dream day in Paris. These won’t be extravagant activities, but things that are easy to do and don’t necessarily come to mind, but things that just make you happy. I wish you a very good week and look forward to seeing you next Thursday.
